1000 Mile Update: X-Mid Pro 2 (Tarp Mod)

Описание к видео 1000 Mile Update: X-Mid Pro 2 (Tarp Mod)

After 1.5 years and over 1000 miles of use on Appalachian Trail sections, we share an update on how our Durston Gear X-Mid Pro 2 tarp modification is performing and some techniques we use to make setup easier for us.

We originally did the mod because we found ourselves using the regular X-Mid 2p (polyester version) with just the fly and Dan's groundsheet. It just has so much room for 1 human and a 100 lb dog (Willow). While bugs are sometimes an issue, we found that much of the time throughout the year, bugs are not bad or we can mitigate them by campsite selection. The DCF fly with net and floor cut out weighs 10.7 ounces.

Overall, we are super happy with the mod and it is our go-to shelter on the Appalachian Trail for all 4 seasons. There have been times when we would have liked bug protection (NY in September), but most of the time it's no issue. AT shelters don't have bug protection either.

Pitching of the tarp functionally works the same as the "stock" Pro version. No structural integrity is lost and the existing pole cups hold the pole handles well.

Hope this helps someone!
