Summary of history for Phimeanakas temple and Chinese diplomat arrived in Angkor Empire from 1296 until 1297 AD.
Phimeanakas which means celestial Palace in Khmer word. Temple was built by king Rajendravarman II in around 941 – 968 AD but it continued to build this temple until king Suryavarman I in 1050 AD.
Temple built in front of the former Royal Palace inside of Angkor Thom city.
Temple changed hand for several times for holy statue that king worshipped for. It is amazed temple.
If the king practiced Hindu religion, he installed Shiva Linga to worship for. If the king practiced Buddhist religion, he installed Buddha statue in the central sanctuary to worship.
According to the Mr. Zhou Daguon wrote that central temple tower was covered by gold or golden tower.
Mr. Zhou Daguon stayed in Angkor for a year from 1296 until 1297 AD. He wrote a lot of things of the Khmer civilization and everyday life and the kings.
One of the stories was amazed by his accounts that extracted from local people said that each king had to go to sleep with nine headed serpent who transformed her body to be beautiful woman.
The king had to go up to this temple every night to sleep with her. If the king failed to do this for a night, she would destroy the Angkor Empire.
This is an account of Chinese diplomat on the late 10th century Phimeanakas temple for 1000 years ago.
Temple was one of the Hindu Cultural Heritages in Angkor Empire. It was built from red laterite stone and each corner installed sandstone lions and sandstone elephants.
Some sandstone lions and elephants were collapsed down, for years ago. Local Authority collected it to keep one place.
