Dr Chantal Naidoo holds a PhD from the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex. Her primary research relates to the role of financial systems in sustainability transition processes, and research interests include national development banks, financing strategies for climate action and rethinking finance theories for sustainability. She is presently leading a support programme on energy transitions funded by the European Climate Foundation. Her prior work includes technical roles in public and private finance institutions, and Green Climate Fund supporting countries across the Africa region on climate finance and readiness assistance.


Dr Nthabiseng (Nthabi) Mohlakoana is a lecturer at the Centre for Complex Systems in Transition (CST) and Researcher focusing on the South African Just Energy Transition process, Renewable Energy policies, technology, governance issues and transitions. With over 15 years of experience in research focusing on energy policy implementation, energy access and use as well as gender mainstreaming in the energy sector, Nthabi’s expertise are relevant to the current CST agenda of sustainable energy transitions in South Africa and the rest of the continent. In 2014 she completed her PhD study at the University of Twente’s Department of Governance and Technology for Sustainability (CSTM) where she analysed the implementation process of the Free Basic Alternative Energy (FBAE) policy by local municipalities in the rural areas of the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
