Here is how to make bird sounds on a violin.

The late Josef Ghermant charms the birds form the trees in the woods near Gherla in Transylvania. He was an amazing violinist who taught me many tunes and told fabulous stories about his time as the leader of a Ceacescu's Gypsy Orchestra. He died a few years ago, but I have been revisiting the footage in preparation for my folk music course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. The player is the late great Iosef Ghermant and was filmed in 2005 in Transylvania by Kate Hands. At one point he is having a real conversation with the birds as he charms them down from the trees.
