So when do we want to play a low punch draw? The golf punch shot is extremely useful every day. Whether trying to get to a back flag, keeping under a strong headwind or escaping from trouble, this shot will most likely be played multiple times every round.

In golf, how to punch it should be taught to all golfers. Too often golfers only focus on hitting high pretty golf shots on the range while they should be working on all of golfs recovery shots. Step 1 – Stance Width
The first step to hitting a low punch draw is adjusted your feet. Bring both feet closer together, creating a more narrow stance.

Step 2 – Ball Position
Next you will adjust ball position, so the ball is deeper in your stance, for right handed golfers the ball is be played just inside your right foot. The back ball position will help lower the launch for this this knock down punch shot.

Step 3 – Face Angle
The face angle is key for how the ball shapes. An open club face and the punch shot will go to the right and with square club face the punch shot will go straight. For the ball to really shape the face must be closed to the path. If the face is slightly closed, the shop will results as a low punch draw, and it is very closed it will results as a knock down hook. Note that the more that you close the face, you will also hit is lower. So do not take a low lofted club and really close the face, as the ball will not get off the ground

Step 4 – Swing
The punch shot golf swing is a shorter arm swing, where the hand position does not get above the shoulders in the back swing or through swing. The shorter swing gives the golfer more control for this knock down draw.

Step 5 – Windows
Often we only think about escaping with the low punch draw under all the branches but sometimes the window we need to use the knock down draw as our escape route is above one branch and below another. Practice the low punch draw on the range with all the irons in your bag. This will teach you’re the launch angle and max height so you can improve when on the course.
