What do guides do when they don’t have customers? They go fishing of course! This trip I once again joined Ed Musser from Ed’s Guide Service for late summer Striper fishing trip on beautiful Lake Texoma! During the summer, striper are either pushing bait up shallow on the flats or hanging out on the river channel and creek channel edges feeding on schools of bait. This trip, we planned to look for topwater fish but were fogged in right from the start. We hit a few spots and brought fish in but in some cases they were not super hungry and killed the bait. It was hard to fish multiple rods because of the quick hits.
We were making a move to another spot when we saw a few fish on top. Since the fish on top looked small, we kept the topwaters in the boat and instead opted to drop bait 30’ below the fish. As always, fish were responsive to thumping so we soon had fish swimming under our boat. We put multiple nice box fish (Texoma limit is 10 fish per person, but only two can be over 20” “overs” and the rest must be under 20” “box fish”.
