Children in rural areas of Peru usually do not enjoy many years of schooling. Their helping hands are needed by their families to make a living. A Spanish/Peruvian initiative implements a new school model which takes this fact into consideration. Over 40 rural training centres adapt to the needs of rural communities, take account of home circumstances, long travel distances and the agricultural calendar.

From their first year students begin work on an agri-business project. It starts as a small idea that's gradually enhanced with the skills and knowledge gathered along the way. The end result is a viable business plan to benefit not only the student but their local community.

This initiative, along with 5 other Wise Award winners, will receive a 20,000 dollar prize at the World Innovation Summit for Education in Doha, Qatar (http://www.wise-qatar.org/2014-summit....
