नेपाल में सोमवार से जारी भारी विरोध प्रदर्शनों के बाद सरकार ने आखिरकार सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म्स को फिर से बहाल कर दिया। इस आंदोलन में अब तक 16 से ज्यादा लोगों की मौत और 200 से अधिक लोग घायल बताए जा रहे हैं। आंदोलन की अगुआई Gen Z यानी 18 से 30 साल की पीढ़ी कर रही है, जिन्होंने संसद परिसर तक पहुंचकर बड़ा संदेश दिया।

नेपाल सरकार ने 3 सितंबर को फेसबुक, यूट्यूब, इंस्टाग्राम और X सहित 26 सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म पर रोक लगा दी थी। लेकिन जनदबाव के चलते दोपहर 3:15 बजे के बाद बिना VPN इस्तेमाल किए सभी प्लेटफॉर्म फिर से चलने लगे।

कंपनियों के रजिस्ट्रेशन नियम, डेटा-प्राइवेसी और अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता जैसे सवालों ने इस बहस को और गहरा कर दिया है। पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री प्रचंड ने भी युवाओं की मांगों पर सरकार से ठोस कदम उठाने की अपील की है।

Nepal has witnessed a dramatic turnaround as the government restored access to all major social media platforms after massive youth-led protests. Reports confirm over 16 deaths and more than 200 injured, with the movement led by Gen Z (18–30 years old) who even reached the Parliament complex.

On September 3, the government had imposed a ban on 26 platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and X, citing registration rules. But from 3:15 PM onwards, these platforms became accessible again without VPN use.

Tough conditions on registration, data privacy concerns, and freedom of expression have made global tech companies reluctant to comply. Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has urged the government to listen to the youth and take responsible measures.
