In a major win for protesting farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his government's decision to repeal the three controversial farm laws. He conceded that while the laws were brought in 'good faith', the govt failed to convince a section of farmers.

The constitutional process to withdraw the laws will be completed within a month.

The decision comes just ahead of state polls in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh where the farm protests were predicted to dent the BJP's electoral chances.

Farmers from several parts of the country have been protesting for almost a year now. They have braved winter cold, summer heat, rains and a deadly second wave of the coronavirus.
