In this video, I show you how to turn an eBook or text file into an audiobook using KnowFun's python script. Although KnowFun has a video explaining his method, I have made some changes by running the program locally instead of online, and I do some extra steps to improve the audiobook quality.

INSTRUCTIONS:

0:40 Install calibre, notepad++, and Python
2:27 Create an AWS account and enter billing information
3:03 Go to services, then IAM
3:16 Go to Users, then Add User
3:30 Give it a name and give programmatic access
3:42 assign it to the Administrator Group
4:21 leave keys blank
4:35 download keys csv file
4:50 Go to my GitHub page (linked above) and download the python script
5:17 Extract the zip file and put the python file into its own folder
5:53 create a folder called ‘tmp’
6:05 Open calibre
6:21 Convert an eBook to a txt file
6:57 Find the txt file, and open with notepad++
7:26 Remove table of contents and add title, remove ending parts
7:59 Use find/replace to replace the following phrases:
i. “okay” → “okaaay”
ii. “I…I” → “I“
iii. “I-I“ → “I“
9:56 Save and move the file to the same folder as the python script
10:46 Open the csv file
10:52 Copy the key and secret key to the python script
11:18 Set the txt file name in the bottom of the python script
11:40 Open the folder in command line
12:06 Install boto3 by running the command: ‘pip install boto3’
12:19 Run the python script by the command: ‘python amazonpolly.py’
12:35 Wait a while for the script to complete
13:09 Audiobook created. Enjoy!
