In the 18th and 19th centuries men of the Hudson's Bay Company, who were mainly from the Orkney Islands, introduced the native people of the "Nor'wast" to traditional fiddle music. In the late 19th century Scottish Baffin Straits whalers, who overwintered at their shore station in Cumberland Sound, introduced more modern Scottish tunes such as "Captain Campbell" and "The Barren Rocks of Aden." This film includes music from both these sources and shows how it survives to the present day.
