Here's how I got this custom trim on a budget with a pro finish:

To trim out the upper hutch frame I used pre-primed finger-jointed pine 1x4's to rip my own trim.

I do this instead of buying 1x2's because the 1x2's have rounded edges and don’t butt up cleanly when you’re framing, plus this is a less expensive option.

Face Frame Trim:
I ripped the factory-rounded edge off one side then set my saw to 1⅜" and ripped two trim boards from that one piece.

From there I finished the edges:
Prime ➝ Sand ➝ Fill ➝ Sand ➝ Prime

I cut them to length but left them slightly long to fine cut as I install.

Corner Trim:
I ripped the rounded factory edges off BOTH sides.

Then ripped one edge of the 1x4 at a 45° angle, took the remaining piece and did the same.

I followed the same process for filling the edges and then took those two 45° boards and formed a perfect 90° corner. I glued the seam, sand immediately so the sawdust blended in like natural filler, cut them to length and started the install.
