From Courage to Grace: Chamberlain at Appomattox

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain played a key role in the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee's army at the Battle of Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. Chamberlain was a Union Army officer and was in command of the 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

On the day of the surrender, Chamberlain was chosen to lead the honor guard that received the Confederate soldiers as they laid down their arms.
