On Friday, September 11, the American University of Beirut, and the Lebanese American University New York Academic Center presented a webinar titled "Beyond the Blast: Rebuilding Healthcare in Lebanon." The panel discussion was moderated by NPR International Correspondent Deborah Amos and featured Dr. Firass Abiad, General Manager & CEO, Rafik Hariri University Hospital, Edgard Joujou, CEO, Saint George Hospital University Medical Center, Joseph Otayek, Medical Center Director, American University of Beirut Medical Center, Sami Rizk, CEO, LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital, and Manal Saab, Principal, Lebanon Relief Project.

During this session, the panel discussed how the explosion on August 4 hit Lebanon’s health-care sector particularly hard. The system was already struggling amid political and economic crises, the impact of COVID-19, and millions of dollars of unpaid fees by the Lebanese government.
