Описание к видео SMO 2P Any% SEGMENTED RUN in

Over 3 years in the making, Super Mario Odyssey's 2 Player Best Theoretical Time V5 is finally here. With over 2 minutes of timesave, 5 kingdom re-routes and 14 world records, in that time 2 player has truly been pushing the limits of this game.
Two months ago we released a trailer and tasked runners to find 17 seconds of timesave to push this video below 52 minutes... it was almost an impossible job, but they worked tirelessly towards it - and they delivered.

❓What is a BTT?

BTT, or Best Theoretical Time, is a segmented run aiming to show the absolute limit of Mario Odyssey speedruns with our currently known strats. It splits the game up into over 300 segments, for which the fastest completion times of each is recorded. Every so often, we splice these into a video to show what a "perfect" speedrun of this game could look like, and where we can push the world record towards as a community.
All segments in BTT are completed by humans in real-time. Everything you see is theoretically possible to do in a real run. Some segments use 1 Player mode, but ALL movement possible in 1 Player is also possible in 2 Player.
BTT also tracks the fastest recorded times for every loading screen in the game, which are manually spliced into the video through an equal length black or white screen.

❓Why do you set the date at the start and in the middle of the run?

We use a trick called Daylight Savings Time Abuse, or DSTA. Before the run, we set the clock to 6 minutes before Daylight Savings is going to take place (31/03/2024, 00:54 | London GMT). We aim to plant a seed in sand at 00:59, and have Daylight Savings start soon after. This will cause the time to jump from 00:59 to 2:00, making the seed, which usually takes 20 minutes to become a moon, grow instantly. We also use a precise offset after selecting the date to make sure the time ticks over in the window between planting and collecting the seed moon, as this window is only around 7 seconds wide.
In Metro we plant 2 seeds. Since we already used DSTA, we can't use an offset to grow these seeds. Instead, we go into the settings and synchronise the clock via the internet. Assuming the run is being performed any day after 31/03/2024, this will cause the clock to jump to the current day, making the game think more than 20 minutes has passed and growing the seeds. Its worth noting that a Switch Lite is used here, as does not have a "TV Output" setting in the menu, making it quicker to scroll through.

❓How do you teleport cappy in Cascade, Sand and Lake?

This video features a technique called an ICRC, or Instant Cappy Return Cancel. In specific instances (e.g., after a warp, when entering certain cutscene triggers, or after a story moon), executing specific inputs on the second controller at a precise frame can cause Cappy to teleport. If you press the A or B button on this frame, Cappy will teleport to his last saved location and start returning to Mario. If you press X or Y on this frame, Cappy will perform a CRC and teleport to a position determined by his distance relative to Mario before starting to return. If you perform a shake input on this frame, Cappy will teleport to his last saved location but—unlike the A/B and X/Y ICRCs—will not return to Mario. This video includes at least one instance of each of these types of ICRCs.
