In this video we look at how the JONSWAP spwctrum for irregular waves can be modeled in Ashes. The Equal Energy option is genrally preferred as it allows for a virtually infinte reperition time and a finer discretisation around the peak period.

Note that what we generally mean by ‘wave spectrum’ is not just the FFT of the wave elevation but actually implies dividing the amplitude of each wave component (squared) by the delta frequency. In the Equal Energy case, since the discretisation is finer around the peak frequency, this means that you’ll get back to the traditional shape of the JOSNWAP spectrum, the one you’d see in any text book.
