A playdate between two neighbors in a Lancaster neighborhood turned tragic Monday night after a 9-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the head at a home on Summitview Drive, according to 911 calls obtained by ABC 6.

According to the Lancaster Police Department, the incident happened while two children were in the basement of the home around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The young boy reportedly found the firearm in the basement. In a desperate 911 call obtained by ABC 6, the boy’s grandfather can be heard pleading for help.
