Difference Between FUT vs FUE Hair Transplant


Hi, this is Dr. Sudhanshu Punia at Divine Cosmetic surgery center. Today we will discuss FUT vs FUE for hair transplant. What is FUT? Follicular Unit transplantation means we will remove a skin strip from the permanent zone of the patient. All the hair that will come out, selvage them, size them all and prepare them then they will be used as the graft. We close or stitch the donor area skin in almost an invisible way. That is FUT.

FUE is Follicular Unit Extraction. Each graft is raised separately in the FUE, there is no cut in it. Small grafts from your donor area are taken from several places. The difference between both procedures is that there is a cut in one and after the cut, we take out each hair from the strip. We take out the hairs that have been chosen in the FUE one by one. You will ask which technique is better. We suggest the FUT technique at Divine because in it all the hair coming out of the donor area gets used. There are very low chances of wastage. We removed singular hair in FUE but it decrease the density of the hair. Whereas this problem does not come in the FUT, in that we cover both the top and the bottom area. Fut is useful if you will do the second procedure.

There is an advantage in the foot that another strip can be taken from above or below the same donor area without any damage and loss of hair. There is a disadvantage in the FUE that we cannot get all the hair out from one place because it will decrease your hair density in that area. If you need to have a large number of grafts, then we would recommend that you should get a FUT procedure. It will beneficial for you in a long term as well. First, we remove the strip with the FUT technique. Then the graft was removed from the surrounding area with the help of the FUE technique. This allows 10,000 to 12,000 follicles to be implanted in a single procedure.
