STORYLINE:

Newspapers in the Philippines on Tuesday carried stories about an alleged terrorist plot to strike various targets in the capital, Manila, including the U.S. embassy.

U.S. television news channel CNN reported on Monday that a Canadian man of Kuwaiti origin had revealed al-Qaida planned to attack the U.S. and Israeli embassies in the Philippines after a plot to bomb Western targets in Singapore was foiled by authorities early this year.

Jabarah Mohammed Mansour reportedly told his interrogators about this after he was arrested in Oman earlier this year and turned over to the US military.

But Philippine officials said they've been aware of this information for some time and that security has already been strengthened at embassies and other vital infrastructures in the country.
