The shoulder-season months of September, October, March, and April are also good for visiting Cambodia. Just be prepared for rain showers here and there.

Its capital, Phnom Penh, was abandoned during a genocide under a murderous dictator in the 1970s, but these days the city is gleaming with high-rise buildings, mixed with the historic temples.

Tuk-tuks are the preferred mode of transportation, and will get you from the airport or your hotel to anywhere in the city.

Cambodia's most popular sites for tourists are north in Siem Reap. Angkor Wat and other ancient temples draw two million tourists a year.

Important advice on visiting Cambodia:
-You'll need a tourist visa.
-They accept US Dollars everywhere. Make sure to bring a lot of $1 and $5 bills for purchases and tipping.
-Cambodia is a 14-hour time change from the West Coast of the USA.
