Black Atom formed in 1998 in a small village in north east Scotland. Over the next ten years they went on to become one of Aberdeen's most popular bands, playing packed gigs around the town. They never quite moved beyond this level, but hopefully those who saw them will remember them fondly for their high-energy live shows and hook-laden, harmony-driven take on old-school heavy metal. Sadly they existed in a time when it wasn't possible to obtain professional-quality recordings for budget prices, and their recordings reflect this fact. Still, 2003's Out of Exile EP was quite a local hit upon release, as was the follow-up full length album The Tie That Binds, and the songs were pretty great, even if the recordings themselves were somewhat less so.

They split-up in 2008, after 10 years on the local circuit. In 2018 they announced they were reuniting for a gig at local festival Full Metal Haggis. You should go, it'll be fun.
