Marty Baron—former editor of The Washington Post and The Boston Globe, among other publications—talks to Standard Industries Co-CEO David Winter about his long career as a journalist, the challenges faced by the press today, and what we can do to solve them.

Martin “Marty” Baron is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist whose career has included top editor positions at The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and The Miami Herald. He is best known for leading The Boston Globe’s investigation into the Catholic Church’s concealment of clergy sex abuse, which was portrayed in the Academy Award-winning film Spotlight. During his tenure as executive editor of The Washington Post from 2013 until his retirement in 2021, Baron oversaw coverage of the presidency of Donald Trump, the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capital, and investigations into the National Security Agency. A total of 18 Pulitzer Prizes have been won by newsrooms under his leadership.

This conversation was presented as part of the Standard Speaker Series, which features innovators and thought leaders in business, technology, science, and culture in conversation with Standard Industries co-CEOs David Winter and David Millstone.
