Recording Trumpet - Does preamp really matter?

I have been spending more and more time recording Trumpet in my home studio. I have used Presonus preamps and sound cards for quite a while now. I have really loved using them but the question constantly comes up about the difference between cost effective preamps like my Presonus and “Professional” preamps.

I decided to put this theory to the test. Here I have got my hands on a UK Sound 1173 channel strip and a pair of API512 preamps. These are high quality and quite expensive preamps so I’m excited to see if they really are better than my Presonus preamps. And if they are better, how much better and are they worth the extra money?
