Feldenkrais Mobility Exercise To Loosen A Tight Neck & Thoracic Spine

This is a quick video discussing the benefits and technique of great exercise taken from the Feldenkrais Method that we use a lot to help free up stiffness in the thoracic region (upper back) and the neck. We need rotation to do the simplest of tasks such as walking, turning to look over your shoulder when reversing the car out the driveway, or looking to cross the street. But because we have taught the body how to stiffen the area that is the only area that can do this, we now have to cheat, we have to find another way. We also lose power with our arms without rotation. This is an awesome exercise to help restore the lost mobility. On its own it will not be enough as you will still need a lot of other exercises and movements, but it is a good exercise to use in the early stages of corrective exercise.

This is also a very relaxing exercise that many people use as a form of meditation to help deal with mental stress. I myself have often used this early in the morning when the sun is coming up and it is extremely soothing to your mind and body. The benefits of exercise in dealing with anxiety, stress and depression cannot be overstated and this is one of those exercises that can provide enormous relief.
