Everyone who took part in this exhibition made work like a painting, sculpture, photography or whatever he or she wanted to show in connection to this idea, "kill the father", whatever it called to his or her mind.
The subject "kill the father" has its origins in classical mythology, in the history of King Oedipus who slept with his mother and killed his father. Years later Sigmund Freud used this myth in his theory of the Oedipus complex.
I chose for my work a book by the Czech writer Franz Kafka called "Letter to my father". In this letter Kafka tells his father the way in which he has been influenced by him for all his life. The father was a very authoritarian man who wanted his son to follow in his footsteps and as a consequence did not let him do what he wanted.
The voice in the video is reading passages of Kafka´s letter to his father. He talks about the way that his father wanted him to follow him and the images show tracks, paths and roads very delineated and people walking inside the limits very carefully. It talks about the rules that we all have to follow when we live together with other people despite us often finding them nonsense. This fact make us feel oppresed, feel that we are loosing our liberty.
The images that follows shows things or people being shut in somewhere or images which express anxiety and stress.
In the second part of the video we can see someone running and images inserted expressing the idea of liberty. The rules and the barriers have been broken now and we can follow any way we want and not just the way that we have been told to follow. It is the death of the father.

Este sentimiento de ser NADA que a menudo me domina lo debo en gran parte a tu influencia. Con estas palabras Franz Kafka reprocha a su padre la influencia negativa que éste ejerció sobre él imponiéndole que siguiera su camino sin dejarle tomar sus propias decisiones.
El video comienza con un tren que sigue obediente el camino que le marcan las vías. Este mismo tren aparecerá al final del video pero esta vez sin moverse. Otros trenes van pasando a su lado mientras él permanece impasible. Las palabras de Kafka hablan entonces de la incapacidad de hablar. A veces todas estas normas absurdas que se nos imponen o la limitación de posibles caminos a seguir hace que perdamos la capacidad de expresarnos, de desarrollarnos como individuos. Debemos seguir los caminos establecidos, si no nos bloqueamos. No se nos permite movernos fuera de los márgenes, se nos anula.
El video empieza con imágenes de caminos. Son los caminos que debemos seguir, bien delimitados, todo está bien señalizado para que no nos desviemos. El padre de Kafka es el padre de todos, imponiéndonos reglas o principios que debemos tener en cuenta cuando convivimos con otros y que muchas veces no llegamos a comprender.
Las imágenes muestran luego el sentimiento de opresión, de impotencia ante la represión que se crea al no poder desarrollarnos al margen de los caminos estipulados, al no poder encontrar nuevas opciones.
En la última parte del video alguien corre, se escapa, se aleja de todos esos caminos y busca el suyo. Es la muerte del padre.
