Igriș - Today marked the end of this year's archaeological excavations at the archaeological site of the former Cistercian Abbey of St. Fec. Maria in Igriș, Timiș County. The research was initiated in 2016 and has been continued year after year by a group of archaeologists from the National Museum of Banat in Timișoara (including Dr. Daniela Tănase and Dr. Zsuzsanna Kopeczny), together with specialists from the Institute of Archaeology of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest (including Dr. Balázs Major, university lecturer, and the younger Mr. Keve Botond Jámbor). The members of the Press Office of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Timișoara had the honor of conducting several interviews with the archaeologists who worked in Igriș this summer and taking some photographs for the general public. We would also like to thank Mayor Bogdan-Marius Petrea (mayor of the commune of Sânpetru Mare, which includes the village of Igriș) for his particularly friendly dialogue. This year, archaeological research focused on analyzing the entrance to the monastery church (V) and a monastic building located in the continuation of the transept (E and SE).
