GÉANT Infoshare: Precision Time Protocol (PTP) - operational issues | 31 January 2024

This GÉANT infoshare presented insights into the deployment of the Precision Time Protocol (PTP).
Moving from Network Time Protocol (NTP) to PTP helps to support services and applications requiring higher levels of accuracy and precision in networks. As this migration may involve the introduction of new equipment and entail extensive planning, this exchange of experiences is intended to bring new understanding and facilitate the process.

Throughout the infoshare, four NRENs – CESNET, Sikt, HEAnet and Switch – discussed their work and approaches, shared outcomes and lessons learnt, and presented ongoing and future plans.
