Sales Development Representative (SDR) or Business Development Representative (BDR) are common positions on a B2B sales team that mostly focus on outbound sales, lead generation, & prospecting.

Their day-to-day activities include cold calling, sending cold emails, LinkedIn messages, qualification calls, and building lead lists.

SDR/BDRs are measured on meetings booked, meetings that show up, and/or the number of those meetings that are deemed "Qualified" by the sales rep who takes them.

A Sales Development Rep (SDR) is also known as:
Business Development Rep (SDR)
Inside Sales Rep (ISR)
Business Development Executive

Some organizations have SDRs handling outbound leads, others focus them on inbound leads, and many companies have their SDRs do a bit of both.

An SDR career path will often lead to a closing position after 1/2 years of experience. However, some choose to pursue careers in Sales Development leadership, marketing, or customer success.
