Art with a heart - from the heart of Norfolk, UK.

Hello and welcome to my channel ‘Dunnock Studio’. My name is Jackie Smerdon and I am an artist and tutor living in the heart of Norfolk, UK. I believe art can be created by anyone who wants to learn and I am here to help. Complete beginners are welcome here. No question is a silly question, please ask anything!

Are you looking to start painting with watercolour? Not sure where to start? Here are some tips and tricks to help.
Watercolour is a great way to paint when you're starting out as it's easy to use and pack away. There are many confusing pieces of equipment and lots of paint choices, but there is a way to get started simply. Ask any questions in the comments and suggestions for future videos. I hope you find it useful. If you do, it would be lovely if you could like and subscribe.

Thank you and Happy Painting!

Any of the items I used in this video can be purchased from Bromley’s art supplies or any good art store, whether online or in an actual store!

Watercolour brushes: round and fine liner or rigger
Table salt
Alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, burnt sienna watercolours
Iridescent medium or shimmery watercolours
White gouache paint
Cold pressed watercolour paper of 300gsm or 140lb weight - any heavier and it gets harder to attach to a blank card.
If you don’t have any of these, please use what you have. The idea is for you to experiment and create small sketches that you may wish to give as a card.

TOP TIP!
If you make a card you’re really proud of, make sure you take a PHOTO! That way you can create some printed cards anytime in the future. You will regret it when you sell that perfect card or give it away!
