Welcome to another exciting adventure in Northwest Wisconsin! Join local Realtor, Ben Wheeler, as he takes us on a tour of the beautiful Big McKenzie Lake.
Located in both Burnett and Washburn Counties, Big McKenzie Lake is a sprawling 1129-acre lake with a maximum depth of 71 feet. It is a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts, with a wide variety of fish species including Musky, Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, and even Sturgeon.
Visitors can access the lake from one primary public boat landing, but it can be a bit tricky to navigate, so be sure to take your time. There is also a restaurant on the north side of the lake, McKenzie Landing, where you can dock your boat and enjoy supper club favorites along with great specials.
For those looking to stay overnight, there are several options for lodging on the lake, including Sunshine Resort, Shaunie's Resort, and West Point Lodge. Each offers a unique experience to help you make the most of your visit to the lake.
One of the coolest things about Big McKenzie is the fact that it is one of three lakes that share the McKenzie name, including Middle McKenzie and Lower McKenzie. There is a lake association that includes all three lakes, and more information on the association, including events and meeting information, can be found at https://mckenzielakes.com/. Volunteers on each lake help monitor water quality, ensuring that the lakes remain a pristine natural resource for years to come.
If you're looking to purchase real estate on Big McKenzie, be prepared to pay a premium for a desirable lake lot. While smaller cabins on the lake may be priced around $350,000, larger properties can easily reach into the million-dollar range. The lot is one of the most important factors in determining the value of a lake home, so be sure to do your research and choose wisely.
If you're looking for an adventure, why not try kayaking from Big McKenzie to Middle McKenzie? There is a large culvert that goes under County Rd E and enters into a creek that connects the lakes, providing a peaceful and scenic route for your journey.
