We were delighted to welcome our friend artist-theologian and founder of Notes of Rest, Julian Davis Reid, back to St. Peter's this morning. Through Black sacred music and the story of the Holy Family, he framed sanctuary as something we receive from God and practice for others, insisting that true rest is communal and “spills out,” especially toward those who stand condemned in our midst. In reflection and conversation, the community discerned we are called to see, how embodied togetherness is itself sanctuary, and how even small acts of care and improvisational creativity can become holy shelter.
