You've all heard the phrase "prepare early" to avoid being late on the shot (forehand or backhand usually) but that in fact doesn't work.

The reason why you're late is because you want to see the ball after the bounce and thus you wait with the stroke. So that's why your preparation is also late.

Take a look at some drills here on how to learn to initiate the stroke early even when you don't see the ball yet.
