Ever since Ke Huy Quan made his big comeback in Everything Everywhere All At Once, I’ve been excited for every project he’s in. So when I saw he was leading an action comedy like Love Hurts, I couldn’t buy my ticket fast enough. But did it live up to the hype?

Love Hurts follows Marvin (Ke Huy Quan), a former assassin-turned-realtor who gets pulled back into his old life when his ex-partner-in-crime Rose (Ariana DeBose) resurfaces with a dangerous secret. Add in his crime-lord brother and some high-energy action, and we’ve got a classic "reformed assassin" setup. The movie leans into its Valentine’s Day theme, blending romance, comedy, and action. But does it do anything new?

There’s a lot to like—funny moments, solid action sequences, and some standout performances. Ke Huy Quan absolutely delivers in the fight scenes, proving once again he’s got the skills. Even Marshawn Lynch impressed me with how well he held his own in both action and comedy. But the story? That’s where things fall flat. The romance feels underdeveloped, and some characters, especially Rose, come off as more annoying than compelling.
