Born in Blackpool, England, Steve Robinson immigrated to Canada in 1966. Robinson received his B.F.A. Honours Degree from the University of Manitoba in 1979. His major areas of study were painting and drawing with a minor in film studies.

After several years of exhibiting paintings and drawings in and around Winnipeg, Steve attended a Raku workshop and was instantly attracted to the whole process. In 1985 he switched media and began working in Raku. Hand building with clay allowed Robinson to take elements from his drawings and paintings and move them into a three dimensional form. The freedom of hand building work and the spontaneity and chance happenings of Raku, were like a breath of fresh air. With that first breath, Robinson has gone on to create one of a kind works of art in Raku. The love of the outdoors is a major influence in his work; Robinson takes his camera, sketchbook, canoe and faithful dog, Moon, and paddles the waterways of the Canadian Shield. Once back in the studio, the beauty and inspiration gathered from Mother Earth is transformed into Raku works. Wherever he travels, Robinson is always conscious of his surroundings. His interest in rock formation, trees, water and sky shows up in his small box pieces through to his most recent Raku sculpted paintings.

Robinson works from a home based studio in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
