As the country celebrates Mandela Day, we are reminded of the difficult road that led to today's democratic dispensation. While others believe that the necessary compromises had to be made to achieve democracy, others lament what they call the selling out of the majority of citizens, who still languish in poverty and despair. Can today's high inequality be blamed on the compromises reached during the CODESA negotiations? And what were these compromises?
