Good example of how to stern too med mooring by anchor & use of aft warps onto a quay in Fiskardo.

For many of us, having to Moor stern too a quayside with the dropping an anchor and reversing onto a stone quayside isn't something we generally lean in the UK! or for that matter many places around the world. for the last 10 years or so ive been out here every summer, since 2019 with our long keel yacht Chianti, a Sparkan and Stephens Alpa 42.. so suddenly ive become more aware of how important it is to get up to speed quickly with how to handle a yacht astern!!! Here I've captured a good example of a normal fin keel yacht with the advantage of a bow thruster mooring in the beautifully Fiskardoin N. kefallinia in Greece. this is not a dramatic look heres a yacht crash video and I hope you get the generally ideal of mooring stern too. If you are practicing, try to find a quiet quayside, and preferably with little wind to start with until you become more competent, do make sure you have checked the depth and there are no rocks etc lurking near the quayside. Don't be frightened to ask.. many of the local pilot guides are reasonably accurate and plot some of the depths and obstacles that are actually quite common problem. Do ensure you have got everything prepared... anchor, winch ready, aft lines and especially fenders!!! Good luck!!
