"Hello, I'm Dr. Lai, an internal medicine provider at the Polyclinic.

I was inspired to go into medicine at a young age because my father is a nurse, so I have some family background in terms of healthcare. Seeing my father work hard in hospital, having a rewarding career, makes me want to go to healthcare and to help people.

I originally grew up in the Issaquah, Washington area. And then I went to University of Washington for undergrad and graduated with bachelor of science degree. And then I graduated at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, for medical school. I finally graduated and did a residency in internal medicine in that Mayo Clinic, Arizona. And now I'm back here in the Seattle area again.

As an internal medicine physician, I see a wide range of age groups. I see patients for their annual physicals. I see patients help manage their cholesterol, their high-blood pressure, their diabetes, all sort of chronic diseases. I also see a lot of people with certain mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety as well.

My goal and hope for each visit is that I can help manage all the complexity of a patient's care in terms of different specialties, help coordinate care, and also help being the coach and quarterback of a patient's health. Medicine is constantly changing. I'm really passionate about staying on top of all these advances and changes and bringing it into my patient care. And for me, I want to deliver constant, consistent, and up-to-date care as best as possible.

I practice at The Polyclinic because it's important for my patients to get the best care available. Polyclinic has the resources and the specialties available that can offer a holistic approach to patient care. And it's very important for me that patients see the right specialists, have the right resources to get the best care possible.

Outside of work, I like to spend time with my family. I like to spend time with my two-and-a-half-year-old son. At his age, it's just a joy to watch him grow. I like to play a lot of sports, do some hiking and some trail walking. And I'm a big sports fan in general.

I'm a provider who grew up in this area. It's a joy and privilege to serve the community where I grow. And they come to my office and it's a joy to be their healthcare provider."
