My ascent of Sangre de Cristo 14er Crestone Peak, Colorado’s 7th highest mountain, on August 18, 2021, along with maps & route description. My trip to the top of this mountain took me through an awe-inspiring landscape of steep and jagged rock pinnacles and towers, up a challenging pass and a long rugged red gully, past blue alpine lakes, and through high green meadows. It also brought me to the adjacent Wet Mountain Valley just east of the Sangre de Cristo range, and to the nearby towns of Westcliffe and Silver Cliff, which were founded in the late 1800’s during the mining and railroad booms. At the beginning I discuss some of the history of both this area and of the Crestone group of mountains itself. Climbing this mountain is both very long in terms of endurance, and challenging in terms of climbing and route-finding. As such, it should be approached with preparation and knowledge. Anyway, enjoy the footage! For my climb of Blanca Peak, Colorado’s 4th highest mountain and the highest peak in the Sangre de Cristo range, go here: • Blanca Peak - Summit climb via NW slo... .
