Homestead Garden in the City | Garden Tour Saturday in May | OPEN COLLAB

Come along with me in my SIMPLE URBAN HOMESTEADING GARDEN Tour. I love working towards a BACKYARD HOMESTEADING LIFESTYLE. Along the tour I'll share some URBAN HOMESTEADING GARDEN IDEAS so you too can join and start urban homesteading in the city - creating a thriving backyard homestead in the city.
Even though we live in the city I really believe in doing what you can with the space you have and working towards growing more of our own food.
SIMPLE URBAN HOMESTEADING FOR BEGINNERS just starts with a little bit of effort. We started with raised garden beds and container gardening. And have since expanded to include BACKYARD CHICKENS and made room for a homestead garden in the city. I'm just working with what I have, in the space that I have, to grow what I can.

HOW TO START HOMESTEADING IN THE CITY. See how I make use of my space:
In the front yard: flowering apple tree and lilac bush to attract pollinators, strawberries, mint and chives.
In the backyard: raised garden beds, pots, and the main garden. The chicken coop and fruit bearing bushes.
In the New Garden Box: marigolds and wildflower mix, snap peas, and beans
In the Main Garden: cucamelons, pumpkins, tomatoes, carrots, radishes, potatoes and peppers
In the Side Alley: rhubarb, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, pumpkins

WHAT DOES SPRING LOOK LIKE IN THE CITY: The week that I got outdoors and filmed this the weather was a warm and the two week forecast had no signs of frost so I planted all the little indoor plants outside! Here's hoping I didn't do it too early! My usual rule of thumb is not plant anything outside until May Long weekend to avoid early frosts (unless you are planting things that can take a little frost hit). Lets get HOMESTEADING IN THE SPRING! Or rather BACKYARD HOMESTEADING IN THE CITY. I love to grow what I can with the space that I have.
Most of our gardening happens in the BACKYARD HOMESTEAD IN SPRING. With several raised garden beds in our backyard city garden | HOW TO GROW PLANTS IN RAISED GARDEN BEDS.
Maybe you're wondering CAN YOU GARDEN IN THE CITY? There is always a way to incorporate a little bit of green growth in your city situation. And if not there are plenty of wild bushes in the city you can find hidden spots to pick berries too, or rent a garden spot through the community gardens in your area. But I love getting outdoors and getting the kids involved in preparing the yard and garden for a season of growth. We finished off a lot of the spring cleaning including cleaning the car, and picking some garbage in our neighborhood.
In this video I also have a chance to show you how we expanded the garden area so we have even more room for vegetables this season! The kids dig in the dirt and have some fun HOMESTEADING IN THE CITY!
