Taking a turn for the tougher sides of reality, this piece begins to address so many relevant issues in our world today- human (specifically child) trafficking, slave labor, the Beirut explosion that left many children displaced and migrant workers dumped off in front of an embassy that was not willing to help them, concentration camps and the fine line we walk as lockdowns are ordered and rights fluctuate daily, and the seemingly never ending circle of a lack in empathy we all are experiencing. We are all guilty of turning away from horrible things in order to preserve our own sanity, but that doesn't change them, and it seals shut our opportunity to use our voice for the voiceless. The youth of this time are face to face with a harsher reality than ever before, and so in this piece the Mandeville sisters- Olivia, Sabrina, and Samantha- utilize physical story telling, as well as contact modern improvisation to find the center of the other person. To feel the earth through their feet, and at times to either resist or to surrender into what information is being received through the other person's body/choices. Staying informed and empathetic is a delicate dance, but if we ask for God's eyes and His heart we will always have the space for contemplating the perspective of others.
