Dawner Prince PULSE - Review

Rotating speakers are one of those trademarks of Gilmour sound.
He's been using different units, such as Yamaha RA200, Gibson Maestro Rover and the Doppolas (also based on the Maestro Rover).
The Dawner Prince PULSE is loosely based on the Doppolas, which were used by David Gilmour on "The Division Bell" live tour, in 1994-1995: PULSE.
This is not your typical rotary speaker simulator it has a very peculiar sound, providing a subtle modulation and a smooth sound, acting on the high end and the attack.
On some settings you can also get a deep tremolo effect, which honestly I don't like at all.
You can manage these behaviours with the distance knob.
As promised this pedal helps you get close to those PULSE Live tones, although you may want to combine it with a chorus anyway.
The Dawner Prince PULSE is not exactly cheap, so before buying one I suggest you do the math, or at least find a way to try it first, because you might be disappointed.
I'm not saying it doesn't sound good. It does. It's very good, although I had to find a compromise, because my unit (which actually I borrowed) was defective.
So overall subtle modulation, which becomes more noticeable as the speed increases, much more effective on stereo setups.
It does a fine job on mono setups as well providing a fairly convincing 3D effect.
