Fantasy and Science-Fiction settings dominated early tabletop RPGs, but it wasn't long before creators began exploring the superhero genre. TSR was not the first publisher to enter the Superhero RPG category, but their 1984 entry, the Marvel Super Heroes Heroic Roleplaying Game, was an instant hit, quickly out-selling other superhero RPGs like Villains & Vigilantes and Champions. I talk about the creators of all these games, how the Marvel license came to TSR, and the legacy of the "Universal Table" on the future of TSR's game design.
