It was Christmas Eve, and Tom found himself alone at the train station, waiting for the last train of the night. He wasn’t supposed to be here—he should have been at his family’s holiday gathering, surrounded by warmth and laughter. But something had drawn him away, something he couldn’t quite explain.

As he sat on the cold bench, a soft jingle of bells echoed through the empty station. He looked up and saw an old, rusted train pull into the platform, its windows glowing softly in the dark. It wasn’t the train he had been expecting. There was no destination sign, no one else around. The doors slid open with a quiet hiss, revealing an empty, warmly lit carriage.

Curiosity took over, and Tom stepped inside.

The train lurched forward the moment he sat down, as if it had been waiting for him. The carriage was cozy, filled with twinkling Christmas lights and wreaths. It felt like stepping into a memory, a Christmas from long ago. There were photographs on the walls, old ones, showing families gathered around Christmas trees, laughing and exchanging gifts.

But as Tom looked closer, he saw something that made his heart stop—one of the photos showed his family, from many years ago. There was his mother, father, and even himself as a child, sitting in front of a tree. But this scene had never happened. He had never seen that photo before.

Suddenly, the train came to a halt, and the doors opened. Outside was a small town, covered in snow, lit by a warm glow. It looked familiar, but not quite real, as if it was from another time. At the edge of the platform stood a man in a dark coat, his face obscured by the shadows.

The man raised his hand, beckoning Tom to step out.

Tom hesitated. He could stay on the train, head back to the life he knew, or he could step out and follow the mysterious figure into the unknown.

The jingle of bells rang again, and Tom felt a strange pull, as if this moment had been waiting for him his whole life.

With his heart racing, he stood up, unsure of what lay ahead. Should he leave the train and face whatever waited for him in that strange, snowy town? Or should he stay aboard, safe but forever wondering what might have been?

The decision hung in the air as the train stood still, waiting for him to choose his path.
