At the INIM 2025 SHIELD Conference, Anthony Hardie presented “The Role of Advocacy in Gulf War Illness,” which underscores the critical intersection of patient advocacy, policy change, and medical research in addressing Gulf War Illness.

Anthony explores the pivotal role that advocacy has played in advancing awareness, resources, and scientific inquiry related to Gulf War Illness (GWI). He outlines the historical and ongoing challenges faced by veterans, including institutional denial, medical gaslighting, and the complex, debilitating symptoms that emerged upon their return from deployment.

He also offers an in-depth look at how affected veterans mobilized to demand recognition from both government agencies and the medical research community.
