Asset management firms have been reeling a bit from the one-two punch of clients pushing back on the fees that firms charge, and the challenge to the bottom line via passive investment vehicles and strategies.

Yet there might be a way for asset management firms with active strategies to hit back, says Damian Handzy, Global Head of Risk for StatPro, when interviewed by FTF News. StatPro provides financial portfolio analytics, including performance, attribution and risk analysis.

“Analytics are a way for asset managers to really show differentiation with their competitors,” Handzy says. “Fee compression is a serious issue, so one of the trends is outsourcing analytic calculations as well as even the service of those analytics so that investors can get more information about the money that’s being managed for them and feel … that there’s more going on than with a passive investment, which just rides with the markets.”

FTF News spoke to Handzy during the Performance Measurement Europe (PME) 2018 conference in London this past September. Before joining StatPro, Handzy was chairman and CEO of Investor Analytics, which he co-founded in 1999 and sold to StatPro in early 2016. He is responsible for global strategy and delivery of StatPro’s cloud-based risk services.
