Shaw St deal in review. Today I'd like to kind of review one of the assets that we purchased last year, 2017, and how we worked it out. A little about the property and the process, and a little bit about the numbers. Giving you an idea of what we do, and the type of returns that we're able to work through.
This piece of property we first bought it on a tape from a hedge fund. We reviewed the tape, went through and found the property that we were interested in. This one was on Shaw Street, New Port Richey, Florida. We did our basic due diligence at that point. Looked through Zillow, looked for what was selling in that area. Went through Trulia, again looked at their comp. Also looked at the crime maps to see what the area was like. We don't want to invest in high crime areas if we can avoid it. It was in a good spot. We were able to get a hold of a real estate agent to do some quick due diligence in the very first couple of days. Once we got the information back from our agent, we placed our bid. We won the bid, purchased the note.
The basics on the note. We bought it for $36,700. Took our JV partner in on this note for $47,000. The unpaid balance on it was $50,500. The BPO was between $89,000-99,000. It was basically a one level ranch house with a garage that was converted to living space. The as is price on that was $79,000.
