This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the all-new Acura MDX and the all-newInfiniti QX60 mid-size luxury SUVs.The MDX comes with two engine options, a 3.5L V6 with a 10 speed automatic transmission, 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. The new Type S model has a 3L turbo V6 with 335 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. In Canada, it comes standard with super handling AWD, in the US, there are both FWD and AWD options on the two base trims, AWD is standard on all other trims. Acura recommends premium fuel for the MDX. The QX60 has a 3.5L V6 engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission, gone is the CVT 295 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD in Canada, FWD and AWD options on all trims in the US. Infiniti recommends premium fuel for this QX60 for better performance. Both SUV’s come with plenty of standard features including, 7-passenger seating, a wireless charger, heated front seats, driver seat memory, a heated steering wheel (MDX Advance trim US), panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto (wired Android Auto QX60). They both have a 12.3” display screen, the MDX screen is controlled with a centre console track pad and the QX60 offers a touchscreen as well as a centre console dial. The QX60 comes standard with leather trimmed seats and the MDX leatherette. The zero gravity seats with an available massage feature in the front row are comfortable and plush for long trips, the second row has a standard bench seat, the top trim comes with captain’s chairs. The QX60 offers more passenger space now, the hip to heel room has increased in the second and third rows for a more natural seating position. Getting into the 3rd row is easier now with a one touch second row. The QX60 has a redesigned infotainment system with a standard 12.3” touchscreen, which can also be controlled with the centre console dial. The base trim offers plenty of standard features like wireless Apple Carplay and wired Android Auto, heated front seats and steering wheel, 8-way power front seats, driver seat memory, leather appointed upholstery, a panoramic sunroof and a power tailgate. Our best value trim goes to the Luxe, one up from the base model, it has a 12.3” digital driver display, ProPilot Assist with Navi-link, 20” wheels and in the US, you even get ventilated front seats. It will cost you an extra $4,500 CAD/$6,050 USD compared to the base model. Our test model is the Sensory trim, one below the top trim, it has a head up display, motion activated liftgate, heated second row seats, ventilated front seats in Canada, a wireless charger and Bose sound system. The top trim comes with captain’s chairs with a removable centre console, perforated quilted seats with contrast stitching and a black roof. The MDX has a modern and comfortable interior with seating for up to 7-passengers. It offers a unique feature, a second row that has a removable middle seat for easy walk though access to the 3rd row, so you have the option of both 6 or 7-passenger seating on every trim. It has a standard 12.3” digital driver display and a 12.3” display screen controlled by the True touchpad interface, it is the widest screen ever to be featured in an Acura. Some other standard features include, a leatherette interior, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, driver seat memory, a panoramic sunroof and a power tailgate. Features not available on the base model but standard on all other trims include, a power tailgate with hands-free access and walk away auto close, power folding side mirrors, Acura Navigation with voice recognition, front and rear parking sensors, heated second row seats, perforated leather trimmed seats, interior accent lighting and a 12 or 16 speaker ELS studio audio system. In the US, heated second row seats and a heated steering wheel are standard on the Advance trim. Our best value trim goes to the Tech trim, one up from the base model, it gets all those features we just mentioned for an extra $4,000 CAD/$4,700 US. If you are looking for ventilated fronts seats, you’ll find them on the A-Spec trim and all trims above. The top Platinum Elite trim also gets a head up display, surround view camera, a 16-way power adjustable driver and passenger seat, wood trim, perforated leather trimmed upholstery with seat piping. The A-Spec trim gets an ultra suede interior.
