Описание к видео Wakefoiling Mast Height Guide | Best Size for Beginner to Advanced Riders

Caden and Ryan from MACkite discuss the pros and cons of different mast heights for wakefoiling, focusing on the most common range of 70–85 cm. They explain that for riding behind a boat, mast height plays a major role in handling, stability, and progression. Shorter masts, around 70 cm, are generally better for beginners because they provide more immediate feedback, make it easier to stay in the power pocket of the wake, and reduce the severity of falls.

Shorter masts also place the foil closer to the wake’s push, which helps when learning to ride the wake. However, shorter masts can lead to more frequent “wing outs” (when the foil breaches the surface) and less clearance when carving or pumping.

Longer masts, around 80–85 cm, give riders more room for deeper carving, sharper turns, better wake-to-wake transfers, and improved handling in choppy conditions, while also reducing the chance of winging out. They note that today’s efficient foils make drag from longer masts less of a concern. The main drawbacks of longer masts are a slightly slower reaction time, greater risk of hitting shallow obstacles, and the need for more skill to manage depth.

The two agree that the 75–80 cm range offers a sweet spot for most riders, balancing learning comfort with performance potential. They also advise skipping very short masts (40–60 cm), as they are largely outdated for wakefoiling. For advanced riders without depth concerns, they lean toward the fun and versatility of longer masts, while still acknowledging the practicality of starting shorter for skill development.
