Longsheng Rice Terraces (Longji) - China

Описание к видео Longsheng Rice Terraces (Longji) - China

While travelling in Guilin, China, we made a short trip north to visit the Longsheng Rice Terraces (Dragon's Back Bone). These rice terraces are also known to some people as the Longji Rice Terraces. These are arguably some of the nicest rice terraces in all of China.

Most of the fields were constructed over 650 years ago. They are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain tops. The locals named it "Dragon's Backbone" due to the field's resemblance to dragon's scales.

Our trip to the terraces didn't go exactly as planned. We had left early in the morning to see them for the day, but due to some unexpected slow downs with public transportation we ended up getting there in the late evening. Making a quick decision, we decided to find an Air BnB and stay the night.....with nothing but the clothes (and drone) on our back.

The little village of Dazhai is embedded in to the top of the terrace and filled with many locals running their street shops year round. A gondola can take you to the top, but shuts down every night around 6pm, leaving only the locals and the few tourists who stay the night. The traditional woman of the village all have long black hair that usually touches the ground. They are only able to cut their hair once in their life at the age of 16, symbolizing the fact she is an adult.

The next morning we woke up to see the sunrise, grab some tea and head down into the fields. Although there are walkways down in to the terraces (which we were told we could walk through), many tourists do not do this which is why you can see we were the only people in the rice terraces.

The terraces are truly amazing and worth experiencing with your own eyes. If you ever find yourself in China, put this place on your list!

Enjoy!
