Today we visited some of the fire grounds involved in the Cudlee Creek bushfire. It was incredible the how far this blaze traveled and how close it got to townships. Both Lobethal and Woodside had the fire travel all the way up to the residential areas. Thankfully our brave firefighters prevented it from entering the towns. however there were others that were not so lucky, losing their homes and livelihood. I chose not to film the lost houses out of respect for the victims.

Most of the trees you see in the footage still have their crown leaves, this is when the fire passes at ground level and kills the leaves but does not get hot enough to ignite them. This has created conditions where another fire can pass through the already burnt areas as these scorched dead leaves are dropped, creating a thick new layer of tinder dry material on the ground. I pray that another fire outbreak does not pass through these already devastated areas.
